Alabama QB Jalen Milroe Named Finalist for Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was named one of five finalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award on Thursday. 

The award named after legendary Earl Campbell goes to the best offensive player in the country who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that defined Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. The player also has to either be born in Texas, played high school football in Texas or played at a Texas-based community college or four-year college. 

Milroe grew up in Texas and played high school football at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. The other finalists are Texas running back Jonathon Brooks, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter. 

Milroe finished sixth in the Heisman voting and is also a finalist for the Manning Award. The Alabama quarterback has 2,718 yards and 23 touchdowns through the air and another 468 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. 

Jalen Hurts was a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award in 2016, but no Alabama player has ever won the award since its inaugural season in 2013. 

The winner will be announced at the award banquet in Tyler, Texas on Jan. 10.
