The Chicago Cubs have some good news coming out of their side on Sunday morning ahead of their matchup with the Miami Marlins.
As the Cubs prepare for a sweep at Wrigley Field, they are also seeing starting catcher Yan Gomes begin to participate in baseball activities according to Marquee Sports.
Getting Gomes back will be a huge boost to the pitching staff as he is incredibly trusted and a fantastic game caller. His leadership behind the plate has been instrumental in where this rotation has gone to start the season.
Reliever Brandon Hughes threw a bullpen on Sunday as he works his way back to the team. The bullpen could use some reinforcement after breakdowns have costed Chicago in recent weeks.
Hughes is a significant cog in making that unit work efficiently and in a trusted manner.
Finally, Codi Heuer will throw again on Tuesday after pitching in Saturday's doubleheader at Triple-A Iowa. He is working his way back from elbow reconstruction and has not pitched since September of 2021.
