Cavs’ Evan Mobley Unlikely To Play Vs. Hawks
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

And the hits keep on coming. Or something like that.

The Cavaliers made a historic rally on Tuesday, coming back from 22 points down to defeat the Boston Celtics by a 105-104 count. But before it happened, Evan Mobley suffered a sprained left ankle, hobbling off the floor after a one-star landing on a five-star dunk.

That happened in the third quarter and Mobley never returned. Dean Wade, of course, filled in nicely, scoring 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including what proved to be the game-winning dunk.

Wade may have to do it again, or something close to it, as Mobley is unlikely to be out there when the Cavs visit the Hawks tonight, as relayed by Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

Neither the Cavs nor Hawks had submitted an injury report at this writing, so nothing is official. But odds are, Mobley is out.

As for everyone else, well, along with Donovan Mitchell (knee), Max Strus (also knee) missed Tuesday’s big win. So odds are, the Cavs will be down three starters in Atlanta.

After that, they get to face the West-leading Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Friday. We already know Mitchell is out for that one.

Let’s face it, the Cavs haven’t looked great lately, but they did beat the team with the league’s best record on Tuesday, snapping Boston’s 11-game winning streak. Perhaps that will be something that can get them back on the right track.

But from the sounds of things, they will have to do it without Mobley now, too. At least for a short while. Mobley, of course, missed six weeks earlier this season following arthroscopic knee surgery.
